AUSTIN  (May 15, 2014)  The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $1,300,000 from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Elsa (Hidalgo County).- The loan will finance an emergency water supply project.

By accessing TWDB funding, the city could save an estimated $166,592 in interest and principal over the life of the loan.

Due to non-compliance by Mexico and drought-related water shortages, the City of Elsa is in need of additional water sources to supply the city. The financial assistance will allow the city to plan, design and construct an emergency raw water interconnect with the Engelman Irrigation District to bring additional water to the city's residents.

Since September 2013, TWDB has provided approximately $13 million in financial assistance for emergency projects because of the lack of water deliveries from Mexico and drought.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
