Texas Water Development Board approves $620,000 from the Agriculture Water Conservation Loan Program to the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District

AUSTIN – (June 18, 2014) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $620,000 from the Agriculture Water Conservation Loan Program to the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District. The financial assistance will allow the District to convert its agricultural research field to the North Plains Water Conservation Center. 

The Center's focus will be on demonstrating the application of practical water conservation strategies using the latest on-farm irrigation management technologies and conservation methods. The financial assistance will also allow for needed upgrades to the Center's water delivery, and irrigation and monitoring systems, which will use the latest technologies to demonstrate water conservation practices. In addition, a variety of water conservation management strategies will be demonstrated at the Center.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
