Texas Water Development Board approves $5,960,000 in financial assistance to the City of Port Arthur (Jefferson County) for planning and design of a new wastewater treatment plant

AUSTIN – (June 18, 2014) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a -loan in the amount of $5,960,000 from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Port Arthur (Jefferson County). The assistance will allow the City of Port Arthur to begin the planning and design process for a new wastewater treatment plant.

Port Arthur could save approximately $370,069 over the life of the loan by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

Port Arthur's main wastewater treatment plant was constructed in the 1960s. Due to the age of the plant, it is nearing the end of its useful life. The assistance provided by TWDB will allow the city to plan and design a new 15-million-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment plant.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
