AUSTIN (July 10, 2014) The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a loan in the amount of $2,375,000 from the Texas Water Development Fund to the City of Iraan (Pecos County). The assistance will allow the City of Iraan to construct a new wastewater treatment plant and complete water system improvements.

Iraan is using the Texas Water Development Fund, which allows the city to finance both wastewater and water distribution system improvements in one loan. Over the life of the loan, the city could save approximately $247,851.

The current wastewater treatment plant in Iraan was built in 1953 and is in need of replacement. The assistance approved by TWDB will allow Iraan to construct a new 175,000 gallon per day wastewater treatment plant. In addition, the project will include installation of new water lines, fire hydrants, and valves to extend water services.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
