Texas Water Development Board approves $3,695,000 in financial assistance to the Greater Texoma Utility Authority on behalf of the Lake Kiowa Special Utility District (Cooke County) for water system improvements

AUSTIN – (July 24, 2014) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a loan in the amount of $3,695,000 from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the Greater Texoma Utility Authority (GTUA) on behalf of the Lake Kiowa Special Utility District (Cooke County). The assistance will allow the GTUA to finance water system improvements.

GTUA could save approximately $423,922 over the life of the loan by using the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

The water distribution lines for the Lake Kiowa Special Utility District are deteriorating and leaking water. In addition, the district is experiencing operational problems with their elevated storage tanks. The assistance approved by TWDB will finance the planning, design and construction costs associated with replacing approximately 4 miles of water line and building a new 250,000 gallon elevated storage tank. The project will help reduce the district's water loss.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
