AUSTIN – (December 11, 2014) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $29,000,000 from the Texas Water Development Fund to the San Jacinto River Authority (Harris and Montgomery Counties). The assistance will allow the Authority to rehabilitate and upgrade the San Jacinto River Authority's Highlands Division canal system.

The Authority could save approximately $4,100,000 over the life of the loan by using the Texas Water Development Fund.

The Authority will rehabilitate approximately 27 miles of canals. The improvements will ensure that the canal system continues to reliably convey water and meet the demands of the Highlands Division's customers.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
