AUSTIN – (January 23, 2015) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) annually publishes a request for grant applications for agricultural water conservation projects. The TWDB is currently soliciting applications for projects from eligible groundwater conservation districts. Please join the TWDB on February 3, 2015, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for a free webinar on current grant opportunities.

The webinar will explain the application process and funding eligibility. During the webinar, you will have the opportunity to learn how your district may be able to participate in the Agricultural Water Conservation Grants Program and ask members of the TWDB staff questions.

Applications are due by noon on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, with an anticipated award date of June 2015. Available funding includes $1.49 million for cost share of metering equipment in groundwater conservation districts with rules requiring metering. The request for applications and application instructions are available online.

Through a participating district, agricultural producers may receive equipment at a reduced cost, implementing a best management practice that improves irrigation management and encourages irrigation water conservation. The districts gain valuable water use information to refine upon groundwater availability models and make informed management decisions. The data also aid development of irrigation demand projections for the regional water planning process.

For more information, contact the TWDB Agricultural Water Conservation Team at 512-936-6090 or agconservation@twdb.texas.gov. The TWDB Agricultural Water Conservation webpage also provides information about the agency’s programs and examples of projects previously funded through the TWDB Agricultural Water Conservation Grants Program.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
