The Texas Water Development Board approves $44,065,000 to the City of Eagle Pass (Maverick County) for water system improvements

AUSTIN – (October 5, 2016) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of a $44,065,000 multi-year loan commitment from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Eagle Pass (Maverick County). The City will be able to finance planning, design, and construction costs associated with water system improvements.

By using the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, the City could save approximately $3.2 million over the life of the 2016 portion of the loan commitment. Additional savings will occur when the City closes on the other portions of the loan.

With the assistance approved today, the City will be able to expand its surface water treatment plant from 15 million gallons per day to 18 million gallons per day. The City will also use the assistance to replace water distribution systems in the Las Quintas and Jardines Verdes subdivisions, replace and rehabilitate existing water tanks, and construct a new ground storage tank at College Hills. The TWDB previously committed approximately $8.2 million for the planning and design of the project, a leak detection study, a water audit, water modeling, and a GIS-based asset management plan.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
