Texas Water Development Board approves $75,920,000 in financial assistance to the City of San Antonio, acting by and through the San Antonio Water System (Bexar County) for the Water Resources Integration Program

AUSTIN – (November 6, 2014) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $75,920,000 from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the City of San Antonio, acting by and through the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) (Bexar County). The assistance will finance the construction of Phase 1 of the Water Resources Integration Program (WRIP).

SAWS could save approximately $19,973,000 over the life of the loan by using the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

SAWS needs to convey large quantities of treated potable water into its distribution system from its water supply and development programs. Phase 1 of WRIP includes the construction of approximately 28 miles of water transmission pipeline. The pipeline will deliver up to 50 million gallons per day of potable water into the western portion of the SAWS distribution system. The construction is part of a larger system that will integrate several of SAWS' water supply and development programs.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
