Texas Water Development Board approves $18,370,000 to the City of Abilene (Taylor and Jones counties) for a water meter replacement project

AUSTIN – (December 7, 2017) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $18,370,000 from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Abilene (Taylor and Jones counties). The City will use the assistance to finance the planning, design, and construction of a water meter replacement project.

The City could save approximately $2.7 million over the life of the loan by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

With the assistance approved today, the City will replace approximately 43,500 water meters with automated readers that will include leak detection capabilities. The new meters will allow the City's customers to access their water account information and allow the City to better track its water resources. The City anticipates saving approximately 65 million gallons of water per year from the new meter installation.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
