Texas Water Development Board approves $18 million to the City of Del Rio (Val Verde County) for water and wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN – (February 15, 2018) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $18 million, consisting of a $6 million loan from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) and $12 million in loans from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), to the City of Del Rio (Val Verde County).

The financial assistance could save the City approximately $2.9 million over the life of the loans.

The $6 million loan provided by the DWSRF will allow the City to finance the planning, design, and construction costs associated with a water line replacement project. The project will help reduce water loss within the system. The TWDB previously funded $10 million for the first phase of this project.

With the $12 million from the CWSRF, the City will be able to finance costs associated with improvements at the San Felipe and Silver Lake wastewater treatment plants.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
