Texas Water Development Board approves $5,225,000 to the Valley Municipal Utility District No. 2 (Cameron County) for water and wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN – (March 21, 2018) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $5,225,000, consisting of a $1,495,000 loan from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) and a $3,730,000 loan from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), to the Valley Municipal Utility District No. 2 (Cameron County).

The financial assistance could save the District approximately $1.5 million over the life of the loans.

The $1,495,000 loan provided by the DWSRF will allow the District to finance planning, design, and construction costs associated with water system improvements. The District will replace approximately 9,600 linear feet of water lines within the system. When complete, the project will help reduce water loss and improve water distribution system efficiency. The District will also create an asset management plan.

With the $3,730,000 from the CWSRF, the District will finance planning, design, and construction costs of a wastewater system improvement project. The District will replace approximately 20,000 linear feet of pipeline and rehabilitate approximately 64 manholes.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
