Texas Water Development Board approves $520,510 to the Beechwood Water Supply Corporation (Sabine County) for Hurricane Harvey recovery projects

AUSTIN - (September 6, 2018) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $520,510, consisting of $297,000 in loan forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and $223,510 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), to the Beechwood Water Supply Corporation (Sabine County). The financial assistance will allow the Corporation to finance Hurricane Harvey recovery projects.

The $297,000 in loan forgiveness provided by the CWSRF will allow the Corporation to finance the planning, design, and construction phases of improvements at its wastewater treatment plant. The improvements are necessary due to excessive rainfall during Hurricane Harvey that impacted the system.

With the $223,510 from the DWSRF, the Corporation will be able to finance the planning, design, and construction costs associated with improvements at its water treatment plant. Improvements include relocating 500 feet of pipeline and water meters and providing new service lines and connections. The improvements will address issues caused by the approximately 30 inches of rain received by the system during Hurricane Harvey.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
