Texas Water Development Board approves $6,155,000 to the Roman Forest Consolidated Municipal Utility District (Montgomery County) for a Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery project

AUSTIN – (June 4, 2019) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $6,155,000, consisting of a $5,655,000 loan and $500,000 in loan forgiveness, from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the Roman Forest Consolidated Municipal Utility District (Montgomery County). The District will use the assistance to finance planning, acquisition, design, and construction costs associated with a Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery project.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the District could save approximately $2.5 million by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

The District-s current wastewater treatment plant was submerged for three days during Hurricane Harvey, resulting in significant damages. With the assistance approved today, the District will construct a new 0.35-million-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment plant with the top of the structures elevated to mitigate future flooding. The design will also include a new 0.70-million-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment plant for development later.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
