Texas Water Development Board approves $10,575,000 to the City of Marlin (Falls County) for stormwater system and water system improvements

AUSTIN – (October 3, 2019) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $10,575,000, consisting of a $3,055,000 zero-percent interest loan and $1,190,000 in loan forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and a $2,330,000 zero-percent interest loan and $4,000,000 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), to the City of Marlin (Falls County). The City will use the assistance to finance stormwater system and water system improvements.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the City could save approximately $2.3 million over the life of the loans by using the DWSRF and CWSRF programs.

With the $4,245,000 from the CWSRF, the City will finance the planning, design, and construction of a drainage system improvement project that includes replacing the existing stormwater collection system and building a new water quality pond. 

The $6,330,000 provided by the DWSRF will allow for the planning, design, and construction of water system improvements. The City will rehabilitate its water treatment plant, remove an abandoned clear well, replace approximately seven miles of water lines, and make other improvements. The project components will help reduce water loss.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
