Texas Water Development Board approves $60,560,000 to the City of Port Arthur (Jefferson and Orange counties) for wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN – (November 21, 2019) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $60,560,000, consisting of a $56,310,000 loan and $4,250,000 in loan forgiveness, from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Port Arthur (Jefferson and Orange counties). The City will use the assistance to finance construction costs associated with wastewater system improvements.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the City could save approximately $9.7 million over the life of the loan by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

With the assistance approved today, the City will make improvements to the Main Wastewater Treatment Plant. The City received funding from the TWDB in 2015 for the planning, acquisition, and design of the improvements.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
