AUSTIN – (March 12, 2020) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $537,600 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Newton (Newton County) on behalf of the East Newton Water Supply Corporation. The City will use the assistance to finance planning, design, and construction costs associated with water system improvements.

Following the failure of East Newton Water Supply Corporation's well in 2017, a temporary connection to the City was constructed. Due to low pressure in the temporary system, the area served by the Corporation has been under a boil water notice. With the assistance approved today, the City will complete a project to restore permanent water service to the area and enable the Corporation to lift the boil notice.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
