Texas Water Development Board approves $5,359,828 to the City of Roma (Starr County) for a wastewater system improvement project

AUSTIN – (December 16, 2021) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $5,359,828, consisting of $2,431,000 in financing and $2,928,828 in loan forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, to the City of Roma (Starr County). The City will use the assistance to finance the planning, design, and construction of a wastewater system improvement project and develop an asset management plan.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the City could save approximately $1,200,000 over the life of the loan by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

With the financial assistance approved today, the City will make improvements to its wastewater treatment plant and lift stations. Additionally, the City will develop an asset management plan to provide a detailed inventory of the water and wastewater system and a capital improvement plan.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
