AUSTIN – (May 26, 2022) – What’s deep in your heart when you think of Texas water? Every Texan has a unique story or connection to water. What's yours?
The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is partnering with the Texas Water Foundation’s statewide water campaign, Texas Runs on Water (TROW), to host the “Deep in the Heart” Texas Water Photo Campaign to highlight the state’s unique water features and inspire Texans to draw a connection to the water that keeps our state running. The campaign will run June 1–30.
“Water is essential to everything we do and love in Texas,” said Jeff Walker, TWDB Executive Administrator. “It nurtures our bodies and minds, supports our communities, and sustains our industries. Texas water runs deep in our hearts, tying each of us together through memories and personal connections. Many of my fondest memories have a tie to water.”
All Texans are invited to share photos on Instagram that represent their unique ties to Texas water, whether it’s a trip to the coast; a scenic view of Texas lakes, rivers, or springs; or a tubing trip with friends. The sky's the limit. Photos from the past and present are welcome.
“Texas is fortunate to be rich in reasons to care deeply about water,” said Sarah Schlessinger, Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Water Foundation. “Texas Runs on Water, the first statewide water campaign, is about deepening Texans’ connection to water and inspiring action to value and protect it. This photo campaign is an extension of that mission, and we look forward to seeing the many ways Texans connect to our waterways.”
Each properly tagged photo submission will be considered an entry into a random drawing for fun prizes. The campaign’s goal is to inspire appreciation of the water that keeps our state running by reflecting on the pride and personal connections deep in the hearts of all Texans.
Starting June 1, Instagram users are encouraged to post photos using the hashtag #MyTexasWater. The two agencies will feature photos and information about Texas water on their social media accounts and share submitted photos throughout the month.
To participate:
1. Follow @waterfortexas and @texasrunsonwater on Instagram
2. Post photos using the hashtag #MyTexasWater
3. Mention the photo’s location and tag both Instagram pages
Three participants will be selected at random by the TWDB and TROW after the campaign ends to receive a swag bag. Prizes may include TWDB and TROW swag or other items determined by the host organizations. Winners will be notified and announced on Instagram July 1. For the complete rules and conditions of the campaign, please visit the TWDB’s website.

Texas Runs on Water is the first-of-its-kind statewide water campaign developed by the Texas Water Foundation to inspire a generation of Texans to participate in the cultural and behavioral changes needed to meet future water supply needs.
