AUSTIN – (June 9, 2022) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $1,703,704 to the City of Los Fresnos (Cameron County), consisting of $860,000 in financing and $843,704 in loan forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). The City will use the assistance for the planning, acquisition, design, and construction of stormwater drainage improvements.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the City could save approximately $345,000 over the life of the loan by using the CWSRF.

With the financial assistance approved today, the City will develop a drainage master plan, including an asset management plan to provide a comprehensive evaluation of existing drainage conditions, an inventory and mapping of existing drainage infrastructure, a hydrology and hydraulic model, and a capital improvements plan with budget estimates and potential funding mechanisms for the proposed improvements. In addition, the project includes drainage improvements within the City limits where flooding occurs during significant rainfall events.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
