Texas Water Development Board approves $1,049,118 in agricultural water conservation grants

AUSTIN – (May 4, 2023) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved $1,049,118 in grants through its Agricultural Water Conservation Grants Program. The program offers grant funding to state agencies and political subdivisions for activities that promote water conservation in the state.

The grant recipients are Edwards Aquifer Authority, Texas Tech University, Mesquite Groundwater Conservation District, Rolling Plains Groundwater Conservation District, Texas A&M University – Kingsville, Texas A&M University – AgriLife Extension Service, Chambers-Liberty Counties Navigation District, Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1, Cibolo Creek Municipal Authority, and The University of Texas at San Antonio.

These grants will support the implementation of conservation strategies outlined in the regional and state water plans and promote innovation and water conservation in agricultural irrigation throughout the state.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
