AUSTIN – (June 6, 2023) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $3,819,000 to the Airline Improvement District (Harris County), consisting of $1,145,000 in financing and $2,674,000 in grant funding from the Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP). The District will use the financial assistance for the planning, acquisition, design, and construction of a water and sewer service project.

In addition to the grant funding, the District could save approximately $100,000 over the life of the loan by using EDAP.

The District previously received EDAP commitments in 2010 and 2014 that provided first-time water and sewer service to the north section of the District. With the financial assistance approved today, the District will provide first-time water and sewer service to residents of the Lillja area. The new water and sewer systems will connect to the City of Houston’s existing systems and upon completion of construction, ownership of the assets will be transferred to the City of Houston.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
