AUSTIN – (June 6, 2023) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $8,510,000 to the City of Mission (Hidalgo County), consisting of $4,255,000 in financing and $4,255,000 in grant funding from the Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP). The City will use the financial assistance for the planning, acquisition, and construction of a wastewater system project.

In addition to the grant funding, the City could save approximately $310,000 over the life of the loan by using EDAP.

With the financial assistance approved today, the City will construct a wastewater collection system to bring first-time sewer service to 14 subdivisions northwest of Mission. The wastewater will be transported via a force main to be treated at the City’s existing wastewater treatment plant.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
