Texas Water Development Board approves $4,600,000 to Presidio County for water and wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN – (June 6, 2023) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $4,600,000 to Presidio County, consisting of $1,380,000 in financing and $3,220,000 in grant funding from the Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP). The County will use the financial assistance for the planning, acquisition, design, and construction of a water and wastewater system project.

In addition to the grant funding, the County could save approximately $135,000 over the life of the loan by using EDAP.

With the financial assistance approved today, the County will rehabilitate or replace the existing clay sewer collection system in the Fort D.A. Russell area and extend the City of Marfa’s water and wastewater systems to provide first-time water and wastewater service to the East Heights area. This project also includes planning, acquisition, and design to identify the most cost-effective solutions to provide potable drinking water for the unincorporated areas of Las Pampas and Shafter.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
