AUSTIN – (June 6, 2023) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $14,365,000 to the San Leon Municipal Utility District (Galveston County), consisting of $4,365,000 in financing and $10,000,000 in principal forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). The District will use the financial assistance for the planning, design, and construction of wastewater system improvements.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the District could save approximately $2,100,000 over the life of the loan by using the CWSRF.

With the financial assistance approved today, the District will evaluate the gravity sewer mains and rehabilitate or replace the existing infrastructure with a jointless pipe that will help mitigate inflow and infiltration from excessive rain and storm surge events. Service connections and manholes will also be rehabilitated or replaced.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
