Texas Water Development Board approves $12,980,000 to the Laguna Madre Water District (Cameron County) for water system improvements

HARLINGEN – (September 14, 2023) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $12,980,000 from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) to the Laguna Madre Water District (Cameron County). The District will use the assistance to finance the construction of water system improvements.

The District could save approximately $1,600,000 over the life of the loan by using the DWSRF.

With the assistance approved today, the District will construct a new elevated storage tank and install a backup generator at Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 1 in Port Isabel. The District will also replace a raw water transfer pump station and complete upgrades to the high service pump station at Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 2 in Laguna Vista. Additionally, the District will decommission two steel ground storage tanks and one elevated storage tank on Port Road.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
