AUSTIN – (August 15, 2024) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $7,705,000 in grant funding to the Angelina and Neches River Authority (Angelina County) from the Rural Water Assistance Fund. The Authority will use the assistance for the planning, acquisition, design, and construction of a water system project.

The Authority manages and operates Prairie Grove Water Supply Corporation’s system and recently entered a wholesale water supply contract with the City of Diboll. With the assistance approved today, the Authority will expand the system's existing pump station and water treatment plant to allow for the adequate use of purchased raw water from the City.

The Authority will also construct a new ground storage tank, aeration tower, equipment building, two 5,000-gallon hydropneumatic tanks, and two 500-gallon-per-minute high service pumps. Additionally, the Authority will replace approximately 35,000 linear feet of undersized water line, construct 25,000 linear feet of new water main to loop the system to the purchased water from the City, and install approximately 250 new automatic meters to mitigate against future water loss.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
