AUSTIN – (July 24, 2025) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $55,000,000 from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT)* program to the City of Austin (Travis County) including
- $10,000,000 for construction of reclaimed water system improvements and
- $45,000,000 for construction of water system improvements.
The City could save approximately $1,100,000 over the life of the loan for the reclaimed water system improvements and approximately $340,000 in the first year of multi-year financing for the water system improvements loan using the SWIFT program. Additional savings may occur when the City closes on other portions of the water system improvements loan.
With the assistance approved today, the City will install approximately 4,500 linear feet of 24-inch reclaimed water main to expand the reclaimed water distribution system in the Travis Heights neighborhood. The City will also replace approximately 6,000 water service lines with high-density and copper tubing pipes.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
*The SWIFT program includes the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT), the State Water Implementation Revenue Fund for Texas (SWIRFT) and may include the issuance of general obligation bonds through the Water Development Fund. Revenue bonds for the program are issued through SWIRFT.
