Texas Water Development Board approves $180,000,000 to the City of Fort Worth (Tarrant, Denton, Parker, and Wise counties) for water system improvements

AUSTIN – (July 24, 2025) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $180,000,000 to the City of Fort Worth (Tarrant, Denton, Parker, and Wise counties) from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT)* program, as funded through the Texas Water Development Fund. The City will use the assistance for water system improvements project.

The City could save approximately $14,100,000 over the life of the loan by using the DFund.

With the assistance approved today, the City will expand the Eagle Mountain Water Treatment Plant with a raw water ozone system, flocculation and sedimentation basins, biological filtration, membrane filtration, disinfection, and other improvements. This project will expand the capacity of the plant by 35 million gallons per day (MGD), with the ability to expand capacity by an additional 50 MGD, for a future total capacity of 190 MGD. 

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.

*The SWIFT program includes the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT), the State Water Implementation Revenue Fund for Texas (SWIRFT) and may include the issuance of general obligation bonds through the Texas Water Development Fund. Revenue bonds for the program are issued through SWIRFT.
