Texas Water Development Board approves $17,104,167 to the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation (Cameron County) for water system improvements

AUSTIN – (August 21, 2025) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $17,104,167 in financial assistance, consisting of $5,135,000 in financing and $11,969,167 in grant funding, to the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation (Cameron County) from the Water Loan Assistance Fund (WLAF) for the planning, acquisition, design, and construction of water system improvements.

With the financial assistance approved today through the WLAF, the corporation will replace approximately 52,800 feet of water transmission main to address water loss and line breaks.

The corporation could save approximately $2,221,755 over the life of the financing and $11,969,167 in grant funding.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
