Texas Water Development Board approves $24,275,510 to the City of New Braunfels (Comal County) for a water system improvement project

AUSTIN – (August 21, 2025) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $24,275,510 in financial assistance, consisting of $11,895,000 in financing and $12,380,810 in loan forgiveness, to the City of New Braunfels (Comal County) from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Lead Service Line Replacement Program for a water system improvements project.

With the financial assistance approved today, the city will continue inventorying its connections to determine which have lead material. The city has identified 3,500 connections containing galvanized materials, which is also considered to be a potential health risk. The city estimates needing 350,000 feet of new water lines for the connections requiring replacement.

The city could save approximately $4,673,896 over the life of the financing and $12,380,510 in principal forgiveness.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
