AUSTIN – (January 30, 2025) – More than 700 attendees, speakers, sponsors, and legislators attended the sold-out Water for Texas 2025 conference hosted by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) from January 27 to 29 in Austin, Texas.

“Our biennial Water for Texas conference embraces the opportunity to gather and explore solutions to our state’s diverse water challenges,” said TWDB Chairwoman L’Oreal Stepney. “This is our largest conference to date and confirms that state leaders and water industry professionals recognize the importance of collaborating and communicating to ensure a secure water future for Texas."

Texas Demographer Dr. Lloyd Potter opened the conference by sharing the state’s demographic trends and projections and the potential impacts on water's future. State Senator Charles Perry later joined TWDB Executive Administrator Bryan McMath for an in-depth discussion on key water policy issues of the 89th Legislative Session.

Filmmakers Ben Masters and Jay Kleberg inspired attendees during the luncheon keynote with a discussion about how art, film, and storytelling can resonate with audiences, influence water awareness and conservation and, ultimately, drive behavior change. The conference also featured general sessions and breakout panels focusing on four tracks: water supply and flood planning; science, technology, and data; business of water; and innovation and legacy.

“From innovative water technologies and flood mitigation to data collaboration, emerging science, and more, this conference brought together experts from around the country to discuss trends and best practices,” said TWDB Board Member Tonya Miller. “Attendees had the opportunity to hear diverse perspectives and learn how other professionals have implemented strategies that could be explored in Texas.”

Between sessions, attendees were encouraged to visit exhibitor booths and the TWDB Interactive Space, which featured live demonstrations of TWDB data platforms and more. Networking events provided additional opportunities for attendees to connect with other water industry experts from across the state and beyond.

The TWDB’s next Water for Texas conference will be held January 25-27, 2027, in Austin.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.

And we, I, in my position, happens to be one of those positions that can do something about that today, and I take it seriously.”
