AUSTIN – (June 25, 2025) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $6,060,000 in financing from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the Agua Special Utility District (Hidalgo County). The District will use the assistance for the planning, acquisition, and design of a water system improvement project.
The District could save approximately $1,700,000 over the life of the loan by using the DWSRF.
With the assistance approved today, the District will complete the planning, acquisition, and design work for a new surface water treatment plant within its northeast service area. The proposed water treatment plant will have an initial treatment capacity of 5 million gallons per day and will be designed for future expansion to 10 million gallons per day as demand increases. The project includes construction of treatment infrastructure, site development, and associated components necessary to support the initial and future phases of operation.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
