AUSTIN – (February 19, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $9,533,598 to the City of San Benito (Cameron County), consisting of $2,900,000 in financing and $6,633,598 in principal forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). The City will use the assistance for the planning, design, and construction of a water system improvements project.
The City could save approximately $775,000 over the life of the loan by using the DWSRF, in addition to the principal forgiveness.
With the assistance approved today, the City will replace approximately 32,500 feet of 6- to 12-inch water distribution lines, which is approximately 2.5 percent of the total system, as well as 80 valves and 24 fire hydrants. The City will also add 12 fire hydrants and 10,500 feet of new 8- to 12-inch water distribution lines to create looping in the system for improved water quality.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
