Texas Water Development Board approves $10,800,000 to the Champions Municipal Utility District (Harris County) for water and wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN – (March 31, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $10,800,000 from the Texas Water Development Fund to the Champions Municipal Utility District (Harris County). The District will use the assistance for the planning, design, and construction of a water and wastewater system improvement project.
With the assistance approved today, the District will replace approximately 4,300 feet of 6-inch to 8-inch water lines, approximately 4 percent of the total system, along with 9 fire hydrants and valves. The District also proposes rehabilitating two ground storage tanks and an elevated storage tank, including recoating of the tanks, piping, and buildings. The District will also rehabilitate the water well and will determine the extent of the work during the planning study for the project.
Additionally, the District will replace and upsize approximately 31,000 feet of sewer lines from 6-inch to 8-inch and 10-inch to 12-inch, respectively, which is approximately 47 percent of the total system. The District will also replace 168 manholes.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
