Texas Water Development Board approves $40,900,000 to the Sharyland Water Supply Corporation (Hidalgo County) for water system improvements

AUSTIN – (April 16, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $40,900,000 in principal forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Emerging Contaminants Program to the Sharyland Water Supply Corporation (Hidalgo County). The Corporation will use the assistance for the planning, design, and construction of a water system project to address emerging contaminants.
With the assistance approved today, the Corporation will implement improvements to its water treatment plants by using reverse osmosis as its preferred treatment method. Though, the final treatment alternative will be selected during the planning phase after completion of the pilot study. The improvements include new 250 horsepower (HP) feed pumps, filters, 30 HP booster pumps, upgrades to the pumps at the pump station, the chemical feed systems, electrical improvements, and additional membranes at the water treatment plants.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
