AUSTIN – (May 11, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $1,200,000 in grant funding from the Flood Infrastructure Fund to Cameron County. The County will use the assistance for the planning, design, and construction of a comprehensive flood early warning system (FEWS).
With the assistance approved today, the County will fund a total of 18 flood monitoring stations. Eight of these stations have already been installed within the project area but are not yet fully commissioned or operational. The County will complete the commissioning, integration, and activation of those existing flood monitoring stations, as well as providing 10 additional monitoring stations and capacity to ensure the FEWS is fully functional as envisioned in the regional flood plan.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
